e met this morning for breakfast, for some reason we grossly underestimated how hungry we were, or let alone how much a human could possibly eat. After glutonizing (it is a word now!), it was decided that we would walk up to the Incan ruins of Saqsaywaman to burn off some calories.
During the hike we introduced Jeanne to the Coca leaf, not sure, but I think she liked it! We arrived at the fortress like ruins after a short climb. The name says it all, it is a stunning place.
We enjoyed the ruins by ourselves for a short while, but after hiking the small hill near the Incan thrown a man approached us. We were a little out of breath and he brandished a plant, we rubbed it between our hands and it created a menthol like affect, opening the lungs.
Poly had won us over. We decided to accept his services as an insane, probably not qualified at all, tour guide. He would show us the back side of the ruins that I didn´t get to see the last time I was here.

The ¨tour¨ included a rock slide, tasting local berries, and a walk through a pitch black natural tunnel (later named the groping cave). We ran into our friend Nick once more and he would join in the amazing tour that is Poly. Poly would also show us how the Incan warriors would dance, a water prayer to pachamama (mother earth), and a prayer stone
, where we took turns blessing our adventure. We sadly departed our favorite guide Poly to head to another set of ruins. We headed further up the hill, stopping of course for a cooling cerveza, to the ruins of Qenqo.
We did our best to make a good sacrifice, but it just wasn´t the same without Poly.
After walking back to town we had a brief meeting to discuss our trek the following day and we met the other poor souls that would endure the next five days with us. I also made sure to email a certain person, as we wouldn´t want them calling the embassy and worrying for the next five days
!
