Tia ha llegado!

We headed to the airport early in the morning to retrieve our favorite non-blood aunt on our father´s side. After convincing the police officer that our car is not for sale, we found Jeanne at the arrivals. It was good to have someone to visit as I think Laura is getting a little sick of me! After settling in to our respective hotels, Jeanne and Laura at the Royal Inca, and me at some place up the hill, we headed out for some good old fashioned tourism. It was good to see the sights a second time. Six years ago I was a fresh faced 21 year old without the wonder lust of the Incan history (and this time around I didn´t confuse the Incan flag!). We visited the Qorichancha which is a great display of Incan architecture mixed in with Spanish culture. Jeanne was nearly arrested after taking a highly illegal picture of Jesus in the church, not really, but she did get hissed at! The following day we headed to the Sacred Valley. We boarded a bus and headed to the surrounding areas of Cuzco. Our guide was not the best we have had, however, we did see a glacier, and then we went to the left! We started the day at the ruins of Pisaq, an impressive set of ruins set atop a hill overlooking the countryside. Then as the clouds rolled in, we headed up to the very steep ruins at Ollantaytambo. It was impressive to see how far the alleged Incan Quarry was from the site. It is amazing from an engineers perspective to wonder how they construccccc, sorry I fell asleep, where was I.... After that our bus climbed the hill at sunset to the church at Chinchero.

The views proved breathtaking, and the people kind. We ended up meeting two lovely ladies that would end up being on our trek up to Salkantay. We had some amazing snacks throughout the day, including giant corn on the cob (I´m talking huge kernels!), Alpaca (llama like animal) meat skewers, and to wash it down a crisp Inca Kola (neon yellow soda flavored like bubble gum!) and you have one satisfying treat. Laura also had a chance to contunue her quilt project with the lovely and shy Gregoria. We headed back to Cusco and while on our way to dinner we ran into our friend Nick Salter and totally crashed his dinner party. We also happened to crash the farewell dinner for the fund raiser trip for London Alzheimer's Association. We applauded along for the man in the crazy pants who made the whole trip possible, thanks crazy pants Alzheimer's guy!
