Get in the car, you are going to get hit!
W
e rolled into the colonial town of Granada to police diverting traffic and men on horse back riding in the streets. After three or four u-turns Laura got out to as a cop for directions. When he told her to get back in the car or "they" will hit you, she rushed back to the car. I made a quick turn around the corner and where boxed in by cars and horsemen
. With the flanks of the mighty steeds bumping the sides of the car, and the crowd surging back and forth I was convinced we were amidst a civil uprising. When all of a sudden the crowd fled to our right with a bull in hot pursuit. When the horsemen all pursued traffic cleared up and we made our way to the hostel.
We joined the festivities and walked around and enjoyed the colorful city. We were approached by a young man named Moses. He is a local trying to graduate high school. He needed some school supplies so we went and bought him a notebook and pen. After we walked around and took care of logistics. We received some great news and decided a night of celebration was in order.
We ran into Moses again and he joined us for dinner.
We had a great night practicing Spanish and getting to know some locals. Tomorrow off to a lake inside a volcano. We got back to the hostel to find the Olympics on and after Bob Costas said, "we normally don´t like to emphasize the medal count..." Laura and I started laughing. We tried to explain to the Europeans in the room how stupid Bob Costas is. Then we secretly basked in the glory of the medal count. We like to win because we are AmeriCANs, not AmeriCAN´T
