Belize it or not

Luckily our bad luck seemed to run out. We got to Belize in the afternoon, and found a tour the next day that would accommodate our special needs. The long day at Tikal the day before nearly ruined our motivation, but we decided to go back to back on tours to save some time. We headed out for a cave tour in Western Belize. The cave has been around a long time and Mayans used to come to the cave for religious sacrifices and to make offerings to the Gods. We decided to follow the tour in our own car because it is on the way to Belize City and we could head straight there afterwards. It was a little early and lucky for us Laura was paying attention, as I apparently wasn´t following the van and almost missed our turn. Unfortunately, the tour was not meant for photographers, as we had to swim up the river to get into the cave. The dry sack was not big enough for my camera, so I apologize for the lack of pictures. The cave was amazing and was really fun to swim up and duck under rocks as we made our way about a half a kilometer into the rock. We finally got to the section with artifacts and had to remove our shoes and wear socks to protect the cave. There was some amazing pottery left behind and we got to see some remains of people that had been sacrifices. It was a little creepy to be in there, and I was glad the guide had extra batteries when my head lamp went out. We hustled to the car, and made good time to get to Belize City, just in time to park the car (in some guys back yard, with two guard dogs, and a passenger van blocking the entrance) securely, and catch the last boat out the Calle (pronounced Key) Ambergis to meet up with the Brother and Wife.
