Glacierific!

Calafate is an up and coming town full of activities in Glaciers National Park. We took the first day to recover after fitzroying ourselves the day before, we also had to get a new battery and take care of some logistics. The following day we headed for the Perito Moreno glacier for a little ice hiking. This was by far one of the highlights of the trip. I have always had an interest in glaciers and ice climbing/hiking. We took a boat out to the glacier and were fitted with crampons (we did not get ice axes, I was a little disappointed). The day was really long and tiring, but well worth it. Our guides were great and showed us some of the ins and outs of the ice (even how to walk on water). I have never experienced quite anything like it, we drank the most pure water in the world. On our hike back we got to see the glacier calving (breaking off) into the water, quite powerful. After the hike we headed to the viewing terrace where we hoped to see some more calving, we saw some more small calves, but she was done for the day. The following day we took a boat to see the rest of the glaciers coming off of the Patagonian southern ice field. The boat was relaxing and got to see some glaciers with different characteristics. We got a pizza to go and left Calafate and headed for Chile, count it, my 6th border crossing.
