According to the US governement, Ecuador is safe!

My sister was worried about me driving alone all the way to Quito, I did fine, my Spanish improved and I even found an obscure apartment building in the dark in Quito. The problem is I left my car alone for a couple of minutes too long. I went in to get Jessie to let me into her parking garage, and when we came out 4 minutes later, my back window was broken and most of my stuff was gone. Jessie saw them driving away but couldn´t get a plate number. And it wouldn´t have mattered, because it took the cops 40 minutes to get there, and they had to call and ask us how to get there!!!!! After realizing that they didn´t get anything all that important (had my credit cards, passport, camera, and hard drive with all my pictures), we hit the airport to pick up our friend Liz. She arrived without a bag and we decided a couple of beers were in order to drowned our sorrows. The next day we took it easy, sleeping in and hitting up a local ceviche (cold fish soup) bar that was great. Met alot of Newman´s friends and had a few laughs. We met up with Jessie´s friend Carla. Being a local she would act as our makeshift tour guide for our short week here in Quito. She took us to old town and showed us around. She also showed us how not to drive to the virgin statue on Panacillo hill. But it was fun to drive around the city for a while. Tuesday we decided to head out for the center of the world (mitad del mundo). I made it a separate blog just for my own purposes. So stay tuned. When we got back we played a little drinking game called insult. Some bad and good things were said and I realized that Carla speaks better slang English than I do! We headed out with a big group to No Bar for a little Martes Cultural. We danced until we couldn´t drink anymore! They love the clubs down here, and with my newly bought $10 polo shirt, I fit in right away. The next day I was supposed to go and get the window fixed on my car, but seeing as me and Andrew got back around 4:30, I needed my beauty rest. We woke up just in time to run over to the Toyota dealership where we eventually got a guy to fix it, but we would have to wait a couple of days. Then we rushed over to the stadium to try and get tickets for the Ecuador vs. Columbia world cup qualifying game. As we got there, the skies opened up and hailed for around an hour. We hit up a bar, got on local TV and waited the storm out. At the last minute we decided to go! So glad we did, even though we were absolutely soaked, and had to stand on empty beer crates to see. But the beers were big and cold and I couldn´t ask for more. Thursday Liz and I woke up early and headed out for a day of lung burning fun. We took a ride up to the top of the volcano Cotopaki (moon´s neck in Quichua). Once again another blog for my sanity. After a long day of riding we headed back to Quito to meet up for a beer or two and a little salsa dancing. Carla and Newman did their best to losen me up, but it is a dance that needs time, and we only had one night. The next day we went with Newman´s friend Gato to a spa like place where we sat in a steam box and would cool off in a cold water bath. We dried off with some fruit and fresh avacado in the sun. My swiming suit went missing (stolen) so I had to borrow some short shorts from Jessie. I thought I looked pretty good, but I don´t think that high up on my legs had seen the sun in a long time! In the afternoon we headed for a little overnight trip out to Otavalo for a little shopping for the girls. Once again, another blog. When we got back to town it was just enough time to get Liz packed and to the airport before her flight back to the states. I will miss her, but it was good to see her. Later we went out, seeing as it was Saturday, and I ended up going out to some bars with some people I didn´t know and had a great time, but I can only say that much. Quito was a great time and it was great to see two of my favorite girls in the world. The gringo beast will miss you both. Buenas Suerte! Hope to see you soon.
