Oasis of adrenaline

We left Nazca after our flight still feeling a wee bit nauseous. We drove for an hour and decided to stop in the small town of Ica for lunch. We read about a lake town in the dessert nearby that was a good place to see. We headed for Huacachina not knowing what to expect. After driving around 300 foot tall sand dunes we came to the oasis town. It is literally a ring of hotels and restaurants surrounding the water. It was a beautiful place and we decided to stay and take a dune buggy tour for sunset and stay the night there. Our driver turned out to be an absolute maniac. He bottomed out the suspension numerous times providing a lovely smell of grinding metal. I thought for sure we were going to roll over a few times, but he kept us upright. The trip included a few chances to sand board. I was shocked to find out that the sand makes a big difference. The sand here made Chile seem like skiing in the Appalachians. I was able to actually link some turns, and I had significantly less sand in the places you don´t want sand. After exhausting us, the driver drove us up to a lookout over the valley of an amazing sunset. It was a relaxed night, and an easy drive up to Lima the next day to see the Doc!
