Toucan hunting

We decided to take a little day trip to get out of the city. We headed inland to a little town at the base of the mountains, Bucay. We took a little drive (30 min one way) up the mountain heading for a hike to a waterfall. The hike was beautiful, with mud and all. After helping mother gain the confidence to cling to the ropes as she tenderly scaled the trail, we made it to the waterfall. I couldn´t resist a little swim. We headed back to the car and headed to a great lunch spot in Bucay. They grow their own Aji peppers. The salsa was great, I couldn´t resist to taste a little bit of the pepper, when offered to the Captain, he replied "what do you think I´m stupid?". Apparently I am, I didn´t even eat the thing, just bit into it and my mouth burned for a half hour! Off hand my mom asked if we could see toucans in Bucay, happens the owner of the restaurant knows of a place. He says 5 minutes up the hill we just drove up, ended up he said 25 minutes and we misunderstood him. We pretty much drove right back up where we were and set off for another hike, except this one had no ropes to keep you upright in the mud. Of course, I was the only one who ended up on my ass. Unfortunately we didn´t see any, but the boys who helped my mom through the hike ended up being great, and their dad invited us over to their place for a drink. I really wanted a crown on the rocks, but I settled for a little sugar cane juice. I helped out as they fed the cane through grinder and the deliciousness came out the bottom. Cheers to an energy drink for the drive back to Guayaquil.
